This weekend in Major League Baseball offers us a number of intriguing series’, with exciting action in both the American and National Leagues.

In the junior circuit, the Tigers continue an important 7-game homestand against some of the league’s best clubs when they host the Yankees for three games. Detroit has struggled in the early going and manager Jim Leyland has promised to shake things up. At minus-9 units of return for bettors already this season, perhaps now could be a good time to start backing the Men of Motown. They were among the league favorites in the preseason but have been adjusted favorably for bettors since the slow start. A good weekend series against the Bronx Bombers could be the lift they need.

In the National League, two of the best starting teams will get together when the Cubs travel to sunny Phoenix for three games against the D-Backs. Arizona has been the bettors’ best friend thus far, already eclipsing the 10-unit mark for profit. This weekend’s 3-game set won’t be easy though, even for the DBacks’ stellar pitching rotation, as the Cubs were the only team to be scoring more than 6 runs per game at the outset of the week.

Finally, the other series to keep an eye on this week matches the two most disappointing clubs in the league, the Rockies and Padres. After contending for all of 2007 and even meeting last October in a 1-game playoff, both clubs are struggling in 2008, thanks to injuries and offensive woes. With Arizona starting so well, both San Diego and Colorado are in danger of falling out of contention before June. It should be an exciting baseball weekend.
